A Brief Biography
Dr. Dominick Maino is an associate optometrist at Lyons Family Eye Care, a Professor of Pediatrics/Binocular Vision at the Illinois Eye Institute/Illinois College of Optometry and the chief optometrist at the Developmental Disabilities IEI Service Faculty at Neumann Family Services.
Dr. Maino has served as the editor for 2 professional journals and authored approximately 200 books, book chapters, and articles. He has given more than 100 presentations worldwide. Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins has published Dr. Maino’s latest book, Visual Diagnosis and Care of the Patient with Special Needs which was awarded 1st Prize in Health and Social Care by the British Medical Association.
He has received recognition for his work from the Order Sons of Italy (Leonardo Da Vinci Award for Excellence in Medicine), National Academies of Practice (Distinguished Practitioner), Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Optometric Editors Association, and the Easter Seal Society of Metropolitan Chicago. Dominick is an internationally recognized expert on oculo-visual problems of children and adults with a strong interest in the patient with special needs.
His avocations include music (he has sung tenor with the 90 voice Northwestern University Summertime Choir under the direction of Stephen Alltop and directs the Illinois College of Optometry Graduate, Alumni and Faculty Choir during graduation ceremonies at the Rockefeller Chapel (University of Chicago). He is also a photographer who has exhibited his work in several venues in the Midwest.
Dominick has been a resident of the Six Corners community in Chicago for more than 3 decades. He and his wife Sylvia raised 2 children in Portage Park, is active in his church (holding many positions and singing in the choir) and is a strong advocate for his neighborhood. Currently, he serves as Secretary of the Filament Theatre’s Board of Directors and on the Six Corners Association Board of Directors as well. One of his Facebook friends recently referred to him as that “Six Corners Guy”, a title he proudly acknowledges.
