Generations Don't See 'Eye to Eye'

Generations Don't See 'Eye to Eye' on Knowledge and Habits Surrounding Eye Health

American Optometric Association's Annual American Eye-Q® Survey Highlights the Importance of Eye and Vision Care -- According to the American Optometric Association's (AOA) annual American Eye-Q® survey, specific generations have different levels of knowledge and varying views and habits when it comes to eye and vision care. From seasonal eye allergies to UV protection to contact lens hygiene, the survey finds that the traditionalist (or silent) generation (1925-1945), baby boomers (1946-1964) and generations X (1965-1977) and Y (1978-1994) all vary in their eye and vision knowledge and habits......

Low Vitamin B12 Levels May Lead To Brain Shrinkage

....The study involved 121 people age 65 and older living on the south side of Chicago. Their blood was drawn to measure levels of vitamin B12 and B12-related metabolites that can indicate a B12 deficiency. The participants also took tests measuring their memory and other cognitive skills. An average of four-and-a-half years later, MRI scans of the participants' brains were taken to measure total brain volume and look for other signs of brain damage......Having high levels of four of five markers for vitamin B12 deficiency was associated with having lower scores on the cognitive tests and smaller total brain volume.....

Changes in Exodeviation Following Hyperopic Correction in Patients With Intermittent Exotropia

Changes in Exodeviation Following Hyperopic Correction in Patients With Intermittent Exotropia

...Although hyperopic correction in patients with X(T) resulted in a limited increase in exodeviation with a subnormal AC/A ratio, one-third of the patients experienced a significant increase in exodeviation. A spectacle correction trial should be considered before surgery in patients with hyperopia and X(T)....
